Modern new installations will be home to the Faculty of Heath Sciences where tomorrow’s healthcare leaders will be trained
On September 28, 2023, the University of Ottawa will unveil its Faculty of Health Sciences’ new home by the Rideau River on Lees Avenue. This $130M building is a testament to the University of Ottawa’s commitment to strengthening the health care system by helping address the chronic shortage of health professionals. Built to promote cross-collaborative research and training, the new facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will allow students to gain functional real-world experience before they graduate.

Bringing together different disciplines to foster the emergence of innovative health and well-being solutions, the new complex will house the schools of Nursing, Nutrition, Human Kinetics, Rehabilitation, and the Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences. Their shared mandate is to train tomorrow’s health leaders and enhance our population’s quality of life thanks to research discoveries and new treatment protocols.

The 220,000 square feet light filled building anchors the university’s Lees Avenue campus and was designed to embrace its physical location nestled between the Rideau River and the existing uOttawa sporting facilities. The building is one of the most sustainable in Ottawa and one of the few to receive LEED certification. Attention was paid to include local flora in the landscaped areas. The meadow plantings aim to help increase biodiversity and adorn the Healing Garden, the central courtyard, and the arrival plaza.

Highly modular, the new facilities will adapt to the future needs of research labs and equip the next generation of health and well-being pioneers.
