I did an online theoretical training and afterwards I did two practical training, the first one was the mice basic training and the second one the aseptic surgery training. Once the training was complete, a person of Direction des services vétérinaires from Université Laval came to check that the first surgery without proceeding to the euthanasia of the mouse was performed correctly in order to start with the surgeries of the protocol.
I have experience with stereotaxic surgery and in vivo procedures.
The training involved: principles and guidelines for animal protection and legislation, design and execution of an animal experiment, Anesthesia: effects of, intra - and postoperative monitoring, pain monitoring and control, clinical examination, normal behavior, methods of identification and restraining, blood collection techniques, anesthesia techniques, euthanasia.
I can summarize my in-vivo mice experience in that I have not done any in-vivo work for my MSc thesis project, however, I have been involved in a few workshops, where mice handling/injection/sacrificing/dissection/bone marrow flushing was involved.
